Update: Uber driver arrested for alleged armed robbery and kidnapping in Myrtle Beach, SC

A woman who allegedly drives for Lyft and Uber was arrested for armed robbery and kidnapping, according to Myrtle Beach Police.

Rebeca Vargas-Torres, 32, was arrested on April 6 and is currently being held at J. Reuben Long Detention Center with a $50,000 bail.

The victim told police that an Uber and Lyft driver he sometimes uses allegedly shoved a gun into his face while trying to take his fanny pack that had cash in it. The incident happened on Feb. 29 in a room at the Holiday Shores Motel, 7501 N. Ocean Boulevard. Police responded about 4:30 a.m.

When the victim tried to leave, the defendant blocked the door, the police report stated. Once outside, the victim was chased and beaten with a firearm.

It appears from the police report that another person may have been involved..

The police report did not state why Vargas-Torres was in the motel room. The victim, who had minor injuries, told police that he “was robbed and beaten by an unknown male with a firearm,” the report said.

The reports did not state why police believe Vargas-Torres committed the crime or what she allegedly stole.
