Update: NC man dies from injuries in shooting outside of Myrtle Beach, SC area nightclub
A 22-year-old North Carolina man has died nearly two weeks after a shooting at a nightclub outside Myrtle Beach.
Jadis Nelson, of Rockingham, died April 24 at Grand Strand Regional Medical Center from injuries he received during the shooting in the parking lot of the 3001 Nightlife on Lake Arrowhead Road, the Horry County Coroner’s Office said Friday.
Nelson was one of two people who were sent to the hospital after the early morning shooting, Horry County Police officials said. It is unclear if charges have been filed in the case.
The shooting happened April 7 around 1:52 a.m. in the parking lot of 3001 Nightlife, 920 Lake Arrowhead Road. One person was critically injured, and the other had injuries that were not life-threatening. Both were taken to the hospital by personal vehicles before first responders arrived at the scene.
“We do our best to keep it safe for our customers and employees by wanding at the door for any guns or knifes, checking all ID’s and making sure nothing is brought inside the club,” said owner Roger Davisson on Facebook. “We cannot check every car in the parking lot so we have little control of what can happen there.”
He said this is the second gun-related incident at 3001 in the past month. The first happened when a gun accidentally fell out of someone’s pocket and went off as they picked the firearm up.
3001 Nightlife will be switching up the way the club runs over the next few weeks, the post said. The club reopened the weekend after the shooting.
“They were shooting at each other and not the club. I am very thankful no innocent customers were injured in the altercation,” Davisson said.
Horry County Police are investigating the shooting.
