A woman in Little River was arrested on Wednesday because a three-month-old died of ethanol poisoning in her care in May 2023.

Jaclyn Katie Brunette, 32, was arrested and charged with unlawful conduct towards a child and inflicting great bodily injury to a child, according to bookings. She was brought to the J. Reuben Long Detention Center on Wednesday morning and left that evening after paying her $5,000 bail.

The child had a BAC of .133 and died of ethanol poising, the police report said. The child was exclusively breastfed, the warrant.

The report also did not say what Brunette’s relation to the infant was.

The mother of the child woke up at 6 a.m. on May 28 and found her child unresponsive in his crib. She brought him upstairs and began performing CPR upon the child, according to the police report. The child was lying on his back and was not sick.
