Update: Man involved in standoff with Myrtle Beach Police named. Gas used to get him out

Myrtle Beach Police deployed gas into condos Tuesday afternoon in an effort to end an hours-long standoff with a barricaded man, according to spokesperson Cpl. Chris Starling.

The incident caused part of Ocean Boulevard South, starting at 25th Avenue, to be blocked off while police attempted to get the man to come out.

Joseph Quesada was eventually arrested about 5 p.m. and brought to the Myrtle Beach Jail. He was charged with first-degree domestic violence and kidnapping, according to WMBF. The Sun News has requested the incident and arrest report.

About seven police vehicles could be seen along the street, and there were more in the alley outside the Palmetto Vista Condos on 26th Avenue South.

It appeared the incident had been going on since at least 1:30 p.m.

The SWAT team came in at 4:30 p.m.

Before the man was arrested, smoke could be seen coming from the condominium.

Starling said earlier that there was a barricaded subject and there would be an increased police presence.
