Update: Myrtle Beach woman arrested in deadly, ‘brutal attack’ confessed killing to inmate
A Myrtle Beach woman has been arrested for a brutal attack that happened in October.
Myrtle Beach Police announced on their Facebook page that Flora Pickett, 57, was arrested and charged with murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime.
Pickett was arrested after apparently admitting to the killing to another inmate while she was incarcerated at J. Reuben Long Detention Center on other charges, according to an arrest warrant.
Pickett is accused of stabbing Starlet Renae Jackson on Oct. 11 at 4:09 a.m. in the 800 block of Nance Street. The 59-year-old died Oct. 13 from her injuries, according to the Horry County Coroner’s Office. The case has been ruled a homicide.
Pickett’s confession was brought to the attention of authorities and audio and video of the conversations were obtained, the warrant said. Pickett was in jail on charges of being a pedestrian on a highway and resisting arrest.
Pickett’s charges were upgraded to murder.
An initial police incident report with scarce details indicated that a knife or cutting instrument had been used in the attack.
Jackson was found in the driver’s seat of her vehicle suffering from multiple stab wounds, according to the arrest warrant. She was taken to the hospital where she later died from her injuries.
It is unclear from the report what resulted in the stabbing.
Police officials declined to release details of the stabbing early on. It wasn’t until Oct. 13, two days after the incident, that police identified on its Facebook page that the stabbing was a “brutal attack.”
