Update: Loris man accused of slamming girlfriend’s dog on concrete repeatedly, killing it
Loris Police Department arrested a 32-year-old man who was wanted for allegedly beating to death his girlfriend’s dog and threatening her.
Michael Griffin, of Loris, was arrested about 11 a.m. Monday on charges of second-degree domestic violence and cruelty to animals, according to Lt. Larry Williams. Police had asked for the public’s help last week in finding Griffin.
According to a police report, Griffin and his girlfriend had gotten into an argument on Nov. 20 which led to Griffin, “repeatedly slamming [the dog] against the concrete floor until it no longer moved.” He then turned to his girlfriend and told her, “You’re next.”
The girlfriend then ran away from the home and Griffin chased her down the street, according to the report. When police cars arrived, Griffin ran away and the girlfriend returned to her dog. She took the animal to a vet who confirmed it had died, the report said.
In the week after the incident, the girlfriend told police where Griffin was located but police could not find him. Griffin also contacted the victim multiple times, blaming her for the incident and telling her, “he would do to her what he did to the dog.”
On Nov. 27, police found Griffin in his home and arrested him, Williams said. He is being held at the J. Reuben Long Detention Center without bail.
An arrest warrant said that Griffin has a prior conviction for domestic violence.
