The Georgetown County Sheriff’s Office has released information regarding online threats made toward Waccamaw High School. Below is a press release.

“Sheriff Carter Weaver wants to give a third update to students, parents and staff at Waccamaw High School about the ongoing investigation into the online photo and threats shared on August 8.

As previously reported, the juvenile photographed in the Snapchat threats was identified and interviewed. Investigators executed two search warrants and obtained cell phones and a laptop from the juvenile’s home. These devices are continuing to be analyzed to prove or disprove the student’s statement that he was not involved in the posting of threats. This analysis, as it should, takes time and all information pertinent to the case will be shared once analysis has been completed.

The GCSO Computer Crimes Unit has identified the IP addresses involved in the threats and is working closely with service providers to obtain and decode cellular data.

In addition, multiple students and receivers of the online threats have been interviewed.

The Waccamaw High School student who was identified in the photo will remain at home until the investigation has been completed.

The Sheriff’s Office thanks the students, staff, and Facebook followers who have come forward with information in this case. If you have any information to share, please call 843-546-5012 or use our anonymous tip line Text A Tip - GCSheriff.org.”
