‘This was a very tragic and sad case’: Myrtle Beach man going to prison for killing wife

A Myrtle Beach man was sentenced to 20 years in prison on Monday for killing his wife in 2021.

Donald Gibel, 45, pleaded guilty Monday to voluntary manslaughter for killing his wife, Tiffany Guinn, according to the Horry County Solicitor’s Office.

Gibel will spend 20 years in prison and will have to serve at least 85% of his sentence before being eligible for parole. He pleaded guilty before his trial began, according to the Solicitor’s Office.

“This was a very tragic and sad case,” Seth Oskin, Horry County assistant solicitor, said in a release. “The Horry County Police did an excellent job of locating the defendant and solving the case quickly. Most importantly, the victim’s family was very pleased with the results and can rest easier knowing that Tiffany’s killer is going to be behind bars for a very lengthy time. They bravely addressed the court and ensured that justice was carried out to the best extent.”

Police noted in an incident report that the home address of Gibel and Guinn had a “history of disturbances” that led to Guinn often sleeping in Gibel’s car. Authorities responded to the home seven times from September until March 18 — the day of her death.
