A woman was arrested in connection with shoplifting after police said she asked to try on rings at a mall jewelry store then left without paying for them.

Jamie Taylor Gonzalez, 32, was charged with shoplifting of a value more than $2,000, but under $10,000, and police did not list the exact value of the rings in the report.

Myrtle Beach officers were called about 10 a.m. Friday to Quick Fix Jewelry at the Coastal Grand mall where a 35-year-old male, store employee had Gonzalez sitting on a mall bench until authorities arrived, police said.

The store employee told police Gonzalez asked to try on a ring set from a display case. The employee said she tried it on then left the store without paying for it, authorities said.

The employee said he found Gonzalez in the common area of the mall, police said.

A witness nearby verified the employee’s account of what happened to police, and authorities said they also saw Gonzalez try on the ring set and leave the store without paying in surveillance footage.
