Update: Bar shooting leaves 14-year-old Loris High School freshman dead
An overnight shooting at a Horry County bar left a 14-year-old Loris High School student dead, authorities said Monday.
On Friday just before midnight, a shooting occurred at the One N Done bar, 3505 Highway 544.
Kaleb Brown, of Longs, was shot and transported to Seacoast Medical Center, according to the Horry County Coroner’s Office. He died around midnight from a gunshot wound to the head.
Horry County Schools confirmed Monday that Brown was a freshman at Loris High School.
“Horry County Schools was made aware of the tragic loss of Kaleb Brown, a Loris High School freshman, over the weekend,” a school district spokesperson said in a statement. “We have received limited details, and we will continue to respect the privacy of the family. The death of a student has a ripple effect on the school community; therefore, Loris High School is providing counseling services to any student or staff at the high school who may be adversely affected by this loss.”
Another person was injured in the incident at the bar, according to a Facebook post from the Horry County Police Department.
Officers responded to the shooting after midnight, but there were no victims at the scene. Multiple vehicles were hit by projectiles, according to an incident report.
The Horry County Police Department is investigating.
