A bank robbery in Aynor Friday forced a nearby school to go into “secured status” to ensure the safety of students and staff, according to a high school principal.

Michael McCracken, who leads Aynor High School, said the status was engaged out of an abundance of caution after talking with police, WMBF-TV reported.

“This means we have secured the perimeter of our building and ensured all doors are locked,” McCracken said in the statement. “Instruction is continuing to happen as normal, and we will continue to monitor the situation.”

Aynor Police Chief Allen Elvis told WMBF that Anderson Brothers Bank on South Main Street was robbed Friday.

It is not clear if anyone has been arrested by the department, which is working with the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division for the investigation.
