South Carolina fugitive sentenced for 2018 armed robberies targeting Grindr users
An Horry County man was sentenced to 12 years in prison Thursday for armed robbery after previously being a fugitive from justice, according to Fifteenth Circuit Solicitor Jimmy Richardson’s office.
Dlanor Tilton, 23, of Loris, was charged with two counts of armed robbery after his sealed sentence was opened, according to Joshua D. Holford, the senior assistant solicitor, in a press release.
Tilton was charged in connection to armed robberies that occurred on Dec. 28 and Dec. 29, 2018, in the Myrtle Beach area using the social media app Grindr, a dating app for the LGBTQ community. Both victims were visiting from out of town, according to reports.
Tilton was convicted of the armed robberies in July and his sentence was sealed after he failed to appear for his trial. U.S. marshals took Tilton into custody in December in Utah and returned him to Horry County.
Tilton was found in Utah where he was playing in a local football league, Holford said at the time of Tilton’s arrest.
Another man, Mazar Sturdivant, 21, of Myrtle Beach, also was convicted of two counts of armed robbery in the December 2018 robberies. Sturdivant was sentenced to 10 years.
