Myrtle Beach police said a man arrested in connection with public drinking and drug possession was later charged with a vandalism that occurred the same night at a local motel, according to police reports.
Ernest John Evans, 25, whose hometown was not listed, was charged with simple possession of marijuana, public drinking, and malicious injury to property, according to jail records.
While on patrol about 7:30 a.m. Wednesday near a parking lot on the 400 block of Mr. Joe White Avenue, a Myrtle Beach officer said Evans was drinking beer next to a dumpster.
During a routine search, police said they found a bag containing marijuana in Evans’ backpack and issued him a ticket, authorities said.
Authorities said that Evans said he had been locked out of his room at the Aquarius Motel during his arrest.
Police were called about 8:10 a.m. later Wednesday morning to the Aquarius Motel at 204 Mr. Joe White Ave. in reference to a vandalism involving the office glass door being shattered, authorities said.
Officers reviewed surveillance footage of the incident and said that about 5:45 a.m. a man wearing a backpack and holding a skateboard banged on the door several times with his fists.
Police identified the man in the footage as Evans, and he was served an arrest warrant in connection with the vandalism at the Myrtle Beach Jail, according to the report.
