A man that was in his own yard behind a fence in Horry County was killed last night after a pickup truck veered off of the road and struck the fence, then the man, according to a release from the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

An Horry County coroner identified the deceased as 68-year-old Ronald Hewitt of Galivants Ferry. He was said to have died on scene and that he was working in his yard at the time of the incident.

The 2013 GMC pickup truck was traveling on Pee Dee Highway near Gunters Island Road at approximately 6:50 p.m. on Wednesday night at the time of the incident.

The driver was transported to a hospital.

The Multi-disiplinary Accident Investigation Team is investigating along with SCHP.

MAIT’s assistance is used when an incident is more complication and may warrant reconstruction of the scene using technology MAIT members are trained in using, according to the SCHP.
