Police respond after man reported couple broke into his motel room, items taken

Police were called after a man said a couple broke into his motel room and took his cellphone and nearly $300 in cash, authorities said.

Officers were called about 2 a.m. Friday to a motel at 2801 N. Ocean Blvd. where a 31-year-old man reported the incident.

The victim told police he was sitting outside his motel room smoking a cigarette when a man and woman approached him and asked where room 203 was located. The victim said he told them there was no room by that number.

The victim said he began to go into his room when the male suspect pushed him from behind and came into his room. The victim told police he and the male suspect began to “wrestle,” according to the police report.

The victim said the door closed on the female suspect, who then gained entry into the room by throwing a metal chair through the window, police said.

The victim said that, once inside, the female suspect threw the chair at him, and the couple then ran from the room, authorities said.

The victim said he noticed he was missing his cellphone and $280 cash after the couple left.

Police said the victim did not appear to have any injuries and did not notice any signs of a struggle other than the broken window and a metal chair inside the room.

Authorities said they found a 27-year-old woman who later reported being assaulted in the room where the incident occurred, but details of the alleged assault were not available.

Police had made no arrests in connection with the incident as of Saturday morning.
