Sexually assaulted 13-year-old spoke up, Longs man faces 20-year sentence after fleeing to Texas

A man from Longs, South Carolina was charged with second degree criminal sexual conduct with a minor after the 13-year-old’s mother reported that her daughter was sexually abused on May 26, 2020, according to a release from the solicitor’s office.

John Peter Kehborn Jr., 48, was convicted this February after failing to appear for his trial. The release states that he was found in Texas by the U.S. Marshals and arrested on a warrant.

“Circuit Court Judge Steven H. John presided over the trial and on Wednesday sentenced Kehborn to 20 years in prison, which is the maximum penalty. Kehborn also is not eligible for parole and must register as a sex offender upon his release from prison,” the release read.

Kehborn was initially charged after the young girl told her mother about the abuse which led her mother to immediately report it, leading to law enforcement using Kehborn’s DNA and statements to connect him to the crime, the release stated.
