AME Church burns in Williamsburg County

Firefighters in Williamsburg County were called to the fire at Mount Zion AME Church on Mackey Road in Greeleyville around 9 p.m.

Media partner sconfire.com reports the fire burned through the roof. Clarendon, Manning and Kingstree fire departments all responded to the scene.

SLED and ATF are now investigating. There is no word on how this fire started, and investigators have not said whether this fire is suspicious. There were thunderstorms in the area with lightning earlier in the evening.

This church has burned before. 20 years ago it was burned to the ground in an arson case.
