‘That’s me, I’m the shooter,’ Murrells Inlet man says to deputy while aiding victim

Finding the suspect in a recent Murrells Inlet shooting proved to be an easier task than usual for law enforcement.

A Georgetown County Sheriff’s Office deputy responded Saturday evening to a report of a shooting at Crepe Myrtle Court and found one man applying pressure on the bullet wound of another man lying on his stomach, according to an incident report.

When the deputy asked the man applying the pressure where the shooter went, he admitted, “That’s me, I’m the shooter,” the report states.

Aaron Stephen Gruber, 31, of Murrells Inlet, was then arrested and his handgun confiscated from near his right hip. He’s since been charged with attempted murder and was released from Georgetown County Detention Center on a $50,000 bond, online records show.

Witnesses told authorities that an argument between Gruber and the victim stemmed from the victim making a sexual gesture about Gruber’s wife. During the interaction, the other man punched Gruber in the face, followed by Gruber pushing the man back, pulling out his gun and firing twice, according to the incident report.

The victim, who suffered gunshot wounds to his lower back and left arm, was transported to Grand Strand Regional Medical Center for treatment.
