A 23-year-old Conway man was arrested in connection with a fatal hit-and-run crash that occurred early Wednesday morning and left one woman dead, according to Lt. Selena Small with the Conway Police Department.

Corey Devon Long was arrested Thursday following a joint investigation between Conway Police Department and the South Carolina Highway Patrol Multidisciplinary Accident Investigation and charged with one count of hit-and-run and duties of a driver involved in an accident with death, Small said.

Conway police responded to the scene of the deadly car crash at 1:10 a.m. Wednesday at the 3400 block of U.S. 701 South and determined the crash to be a head-on collision involving two cars, police said.

Brittany Renae Custer, 24 of Myrtle Beach, was killed during the crash after suffering head injuries, authorities said.

Lanes of traffic were closed for part of the morning on U.S. 701 South while authorities investigated the deadly two-car, head-on crash, Small said.

The suspect was driving a Silver 2007 Jeep Compass and left the scene on foot after the crash occurred, police said.

Long is currently awaiting a bond hearing at the J. Reuben Long Detention Center, Small said.
