An Horry County caretaker is charged with abuse and neglect of a vulnerable adult after an autopsy revealed details of a January death in Longs.

On Dec. 24, 2020, Horry County police responded to the Seacoast Hospital located in Little River in reference to a suspicious death that occurred at a residence off of Della Road in Longs.

Horry County coroner Patty Bellamy informed police that the victim may have died from improper care.

In an arrest warrant filed in Oct. 2021, police found the victim died from “clinical neglect.” More specifically, they died from clinical neglect and extensive Psoriaform rash ulcerations, according to arrest warrants. Police called it a “long and painful suffering before death.”

The day after the person’s death, David Constantine told police he was the person’s caretaker, according to the warrant.

He was the caregiver for at least 10 months and living at the residence.

Constantine, 44, is being held at J. Reuben Long Detention Center on $20,000 bond.
