Woman loses cellphone, birth certificate, social security card in purse snatching

Myrtle Beach police are searching for a suspect after a woman told them a man jumped out of a car and snatched her purse off her shoulder Thursday morning.

Officers were called about 6:50 a.m. to a parking lot on the 400 block of 12th Avenue South where a 41-year-old woman reported the incident.

The victim said she parked her car and a suspicious vehicle pulled up near her, so she started walking fast. She said a man then jumped out of the car and took her purse from her shoulder, authorities said.

The victim said she went to a nearby security office for help. A witness told police he heard the victim scream while he was parking his car, police said.

The witness told police he saw the suspect get into an older-model, silver four-door car that had damage all the way down the right side, according to a police report.

The victim told police that she lost her cellphone, bank card, birth certificate, social security card, credit cards, and house keys in the alleged purse snatching.

The suspect’s car was last seen traveling on 12th Avenue South.

Authorities are still investigating. Please check back for story updates.
