A 28-year-old North Myrtle Beach man was arrested Monday after police said he sexually assaulted an 8-year-old girl.
Edward Allen Rutter was charged with first-degree criminal sexual conduct with a minor, third-degree criminal sexual conduct with a minor, and disseminating obscene material to a minor, according to jail records.
Horry County police said on April 4, they were forwarded a police report from Sumter authorities, where the victim lives and where the alleged crimes were reported, because the incidents reportedly happened in Horry County.
According to an Horry County police report, from July 28, 2013 to March 28, 2014, Rutter “would commit sexual misconduct on the victim.”
The victim said these incidents happened during the time she visited Rutter. Police also said that Rutter showed the victim pornography.
Authorities said Rutter did have sexual intercourse and perform sexual acts with the young victim several times between her 8th and 9th birthdays in Horry County, according to the report.
Rutter is being held at the J. Reuben Long Detention Center, and his bail was not set as of Tuesday morning.
