The Georgetown County Sheriff’s Office and Andrews police arrested a man in connection to two robberies Friday afternoon.
Edward Thomas II, 34, was arrested and taken to the Georgetown County Detention Center Friday night.
Andrews police responded to Newton’s General Store around 3:30 p.m. for a robbery, according to Capt. Melvyn Garrett. Witnesses said Thomas entered the store to cash a check, but when the check was declined Thomas took money from the register and fled the scene, Garrett said.
While working the scene at Newton’s, police received a call about another robbery just outside of city limits, Garrett said.
The second robbery occurred around 4:15 p.m. at Thelma and Louise’s Bait and Tackle at 828 S. Morgan St. in Andrews, said Carrie Cuthbertson, public information officer.
One white male suspect entered the store, removed a beverage from a cooler and walked over the counter. The suspect jumped the counter, took money from the cash register and fled the store with an unknown amount of cash, Cuthbertson said.
No one was injured during the robbery, Cutherbertson said.
Andrews police and Georgetown County Sheriff’s officers identified Thomas who was taken to Andrews Police Department for questioning, Garrett said.
