Myrtle Beach police released more information on an investigation into how a 13-year-old girl disappeared from a Myrtle Beach hotel and wound up in North Carolina.

Investigators said Jalene Olivia Coward, from Colorado, had an online relationship with a subject from North Carolina and left the room voluntarily to meet the subject, according to Lt. Joey Crosby.

Coward was found safe Monday in North Carolina, Crosby said.

The investigation is ongoing, Crosby said.

Officers responded to the Palace Resort at 1605 S. Ocean Blvd in Myrtle Beach on Saturday. Police were told that Jalene left the room about 8:45 p.m. to take the trash to the trash chute and did not return. Family members told police Jalene was preparing to go to an arcade before she disappeared.
