20-year-old motorcyclist who died in crash was volunteer firefighter for Horry County

A motorcyclist died Saturday after a crash involving a car on Holmestown Road, according to the Horry County coroner.

Timothy Hurney, 20, died as a result of the crash, the coroner announced Sunday morning. Hurney had been a volunteer with Horry County Fire Rescue at Station 20 since November, Horry County Fire Rescue announced on their Facebook.

Horry County Fire Rescue responded to the crash around 2:30 p.m. on Saturday. Traffic remained blocked an hour after the crash and drivers were asked to find an alternative route.

South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.
