1 dead, 2 hurt in shooting and car wreck on U.S. 17 near Myrtle Beach’s restaurant row
A 28-year-old man died and two others were hurt in a shooting and car wreck along U.S. 17 near Myrtle Beach on Saturday morning.
Horry County police went to U.S. 17 near Myrtle Beach Manor for the reported shooting around 12:30 a.m. The incident was reported to involve both a shooting and a car wreck.
The Horry County Coroner’s Office Peter E. Franco, of the Myrtle Beach area, as the victim in the incident. Deputy Coroner Darris Fowler said Franco died at the scene and it’s unclear if he was killed in the wreck or because of a gunshot. An autopsy is scheduled to determine his cause of death.
The extent of the injuries for the other people involved has not been released.
Horry County police are asking for the public’s help and tips and information about the shooting. Anyone with information is asked to call 843-915-8477. Police did not provide any additional details, such as suspect information.
Myrtle Beach police, Horry County Fire Rescue, the Myrtle Beach Fire Department and the South Carolina Highway Patrol all responded to the scene. Officers blocked off a large section of U.S. 17 while they searched the scene.
The investigation stretched from Lake Arrowhead Road to the Myrtle Beach Manor nursing home.
Police blocked the southbound lanes near Restaurant Row as they investigated the shooting.
