Report: Man in new Audi headed for Myrtle Beach arrested in NC after going up to 187 mph
A Maryland man heading to Myrtle Beach to show off his new Audi RS7 was arrested Saturday in North Carolina after leading police on a chase in which he reached up to 187 mph in a work zone, according to WRAL.
The North Carolina news station reports that when N.C. state troopers tried to stop him he sped off. The work zone speed limit was 65 mph, officials told WRAL.
According to WRAL, troopers put down stop stick at the U.S. 701 exit near Four Oaks, North Carolina in attempt to stop him. The driver attempted to take the exit at 100 mph in attempt to avoid the stop sticks and crashed his car into the bushes.
WRAL reports that a the man told a firefighter on scene that he was heading to Myrtle Beach in his new Audi to “show it off.” No one was injured in the crash, WRAL reports.
WRAL photos show the Audi’s front bumper nearly completely torn off.
WRAL reports that the man is in Johnston County Jail and being held on $125,000 bond while charged with speeding in a work zone, failure to stop for blue lights and siren and fleeing to elude arrest. As of Sunday afternoon, his named had not been released, according to WRAL.
