Employee at Conway nursing home charged with abuse of elderly resident

An employee at an Horry County assisted living home was arrested this week after police say she assaulted an 85-year-old woman.

On Aug. 21, Conway police responded to the nursing home at 2310 US-378 in regards to an assault report. Police put out a warrant for Angela Grant, 44, an employee at Carolina Gardens, according to her police reports.

Grant was in charge of caring for the victim when she pulled her to her room by the arm and pushed her inside, causing her to fall, according to arrest warrants. Grant also threatened to tie the victim to her wheelchair, police said.

She turned herself in Tuesday to Conway police. She told them she did not want to talk about the assault and they handcuffed her and took her to J Reuben Long Detention Center.

She is charged with abuse of a vulnerable adult and given a $5,000 bond. She was bailed out the next day and faces up to five years in prison if found guilty.
