Loris man in custody after trying to run cop over with his car, according to police

A Loris man tried to run a cop over with his car last night, police said.

Horry County Police arrested Yawnnie Waters and charged him with attempted murder and malicious injury to personal property.

Around 3 a.m. Friday, police responded to a domestic violence call near the JP Quickstop near the Hwy 9 bypass and Springfield Church Road. According to a police report, officers had been called to the residence twice before that day.

The suspect was in his car and drove away from police as they arrived, according to the report. The car then turned around and drove toward one of the officers who moved to the right and hid behind some old gas pumps. The car then veered right, smashing into the patrol car and continued for about 20 yards before stopping in a cornfield, the report states.

Waters was found unconscious and taken to a hospital, and later transported to the J. Reuben Long Detention Center where he is being held on $20,000 bond.

If convicted, he faces up to 30 years for attempted murder and five years for malicious injury to personal property.
