Man in dress and carrying purse hit man with a broom at Myrtle Beach park, police say
A man wearing a black and white dress and carrying a purse allegedly struck a man in the head with a broom at Chapin Park, according to a Myrtle Beach police report.
At approximately 11:45 p.m. Saturday, officers responded to Chapin Park for the report of an assault. Police met with the victim and a witness, the victim’s sister, the report states. The witness told officers the suspect — Christopher Jamar Bellamy, with whom she is familiar — came up behind the victim and struck him over the head with a broom.
Police noted a shattered red broom was still at the scene and that the victim had a small cut on his head. The victim was examined by medical personnel but denied being treated or transported to the hospital, according to the report.
The victim and witness described Bellamy as a tall, skinny Black man wearing a black and white dress and carrying a purse, and said they last saw him running west toward Oak Street, the report states.
Police reviewed city security footage that showed him leaving the scene of the incident right after they were called, and they saw other footage showing him running westbound on Kings Highway around 16th Avenue North, according to the report.
Officers attempted to locate the suspect in the area but were unsuccessful. They issued a warrant for his arrest on a third-degree assault and battery charge.
