Ten men charged with illegal fishing at Huntington Beach State Park in Murrells Inlet

Ten men hauled in a bunch of fish — and citations — for illegal fishing at Huntington State Park in Murrells Inlet, according to the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources.

DNR reported Saturday that the men were in possession of 55 redfish (seven oversized and eight undersized), 12 undersized flounder, clams out of season, and whole stone crabs, leading to 40 citations and numerous warnings from authorities. They were caught by game wardens from Horry and Georgetown counties, according to DNR.

The citations and warnings stem from gear, fish, crab, shellfish, and license violations, according to DNR, which stated that the men caught the game fish illegally with cast nets.

DNR did not state the day of the arrests nor the names of the suspects, but there were 10 men booked by the Georgetown County Sheriff’s Office on Friday night. The following were each arrested by DNR and charged with size limits, catch limits and taking of saltwater game fish:

  • Crispen Abraham, 33, Raleigh, North Carolina
  • Antonio Cajal, 30, Raleigh, North Carolina
  • Marcony Diaz, 40, Oxford, Maryland
  • Fernando Mixtega-Chima, 38, Raleigh, North Carolina
  • Pedro Mixtego, 34, Raleigh, North Carolina
  • Esteban Morales, 25, Raleigh, North Carolina
  • Maynor Omar Mejia Perez, 31, Sanford, North Carolina
  • Jorge Luis Taxilaga, 31, Raleigh, North Carolina
  • Guadalupe Texilaga, 41, Raleigh, North Carolina
  • Juan Texilaga, 33, Raleigh, North Carolina

All but Perez and Morales had been released as of Saturday afternoon, according to online jail records.
