Four take the fast lane to jail for allegedly lying in Horry County car insurance scam
Four people’s alleged car insurance scam hit the skids and landed them in jail this week for trying to milk insurance companies for thousands of dollars.
The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division charged Michael D’Angelo Williams, Gissel Magdalena Diaz-Medina, Ty-ree Lenardo Graham and Shekena Willette Williams with presenting a false claim for insurance payment. They were all booked into J. Reuben Long Detention Center this week.
Police say the group was involved in a scam involving car wrecks in Horry County.
In each crash, some of the group conspired to say they were passengers in car wrecks, when they were not involved in the crashes, according to the arrest warrants. They would then file an insurance claim, sometimes totaling more than $10,000.
In one Jan. 5 crash, Diaz-Medina crashed along Dew Lane in Horry County when she slid on the ice and went off the road, according to the warrant. Diaz-Medina was the only one in the car. She then conspired with Shekena Williams to report Williams as a passenger in the car to the insurance provider.
