Horry County murder suspect found dead in Loris field in apparent homicide, officials say

A Tabor City, North Carolina, man accused of a 2017 murder in Horry County was found dead in a Loris field this week.

Horry County police confirmed they are investigating the death of Jakeem Bryant, 29, as a homicide. Solicitor for the 15th Judicial Circuit Jimmy Richardson said its understanding that Bryant is the same Jakeem Bryant facing a murder charge in connection to a 2017 Green Sea shooting.

Horry County police responded to Armview Road around 3 p.m. Monday for a report of a body. Detectives and crime scene investigators confirmed it was human remains that were found.

The Horry County Coroner’s Office identified the victim as Bryant. Officials say he died around 1 a.m. Saturday.

Anyone with information about the remains is asked to contact police at 843-915-8477.

Bryant was charged in connection to the murder of Latosha Nicole Lewis, 31, in August 2017. He was free on bond ahead of trial.

Police say in that case Lewis was shot multiple times while in a vehicle at the intersection of Carolina Road and Church Road near Green Sea. Her 1-year-old child was in her lap when police found her dead in a car.
