Police: No charges for driver who crashed into Myrtle Beach building, victim identified

The driver of an SUV that crashed into a Myrtle Beach medical facility will not face charges.

Myrtle Beach Cpl. Thomas Vest said on Friday that based on the preliminary investigation — in consultation with the 15th Judicial Circuit Solicitor’s Office — no charges will be filed against the driver. The investigation will continue, however.

Police and fire crews responded to 945 82nd Pkwy. around noon Thursday after a red SUV crashed into the front of a medical building.

Sue Cox, 86, of Myrtle Beach, died in the incident, according to the Horry County Coroner’s Office. She was preparing to leave the building when the crash happened.

At least four other people were taken to nearby Grand Strand Regional Medical Center for treatment. The driver of the SUV was one of the people injured.

Police have not said what led the driver to crash into the front of the building.
