Man sentenced to prison for dealing drugs in Horry County that led to an overdose death

A Myrtle Beach man will spend more than a decade in federal prison for dealing drugs in Horry County that led to one person’s death.

Darrell Levon Curry, aka “Rell,” 31, was sentenced to 12 years in prison after pleading guilty in federal court to possession with intent to distribute fentanyl, cocaine, heroin, and crack cocaine.

Investigators say Curry sold drugs in Horry County from 2016 to 2019. On May 21, 2019, two victims contacted Curry to buy $20 worth of heroin. The victims split the drugs, and immediately overdosed.

Two teenagers found the victims, called 911 and gave CPR until paramedics arrived. Emergency crews saved one victim, who has recovered. Samuel Erny, of Horry County, died from the overdose, authorities said.

Toxicology reports showed the ingested drugs were fentanyl, and not heroin.

Curry left the site of the overdoses before the police arrived and was arrested days later.
