One person shot by Horry County police, state officers on scene investigating

Update 7/9: The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division confirmed the person died in the shooting. The suspect’s name has not been released.

One person was shot by Horry County police on Wednesday night.

The incident happened as police responded to a call on Amberwood Court around 8:15 p.m. One person was shot in the incident, and there is no word on that person’s condition, authorities say.

No Horry County police officers were injured in the shooting, officials said.

The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division was called to help the investigation, which is standard procedure. Several officers are on scene as they investigate the shooting in the area of Dick Pond Road.

Officers blocked off the entrance to the Amberwood subdivision where the shooting took place. Two patrol cars and yellow police tape was all that could be seen from the road in front of the shooting.

People are asked to avoid the area as officers conduct their investigation.

Horry County spokeswoman Kelly Moore declined to provide further details about the shooting.
