One person in custody after hourslong standoff with Myrtle Beach police

One person is in custody after barricading himself in a residence for hours Saturday night.

Myrtle Beach police say the incident started around 7 p.m. when officers tried to arrest the suspect in the 300 block of Withers Swash Park Drive. The wanted person - later identified as Joseph Kenneth Williamson - barricaded himself inside the residence as officers used a loudspeaker to try and get him to come out.

Officers described Williamson as “armed and dangerous.” SWAT and patrol officers responded to the scene, and a large police presence blocked off the area near Withers Swash Park Drive and 3rd Avenue South.

After several hours of negotiations, officers went into the home and took Williamson into custody.

Myrtle Beach police charged Williamson with first-degree criminal sexual conduct and threatening the life of a public official.
