Conway nurse charged with unlawfully acquiring prescription meds, warrants say

A Conway nurse faces up to 15 years in prison for unlawfully acquiring prescription medications, according to warrants.

The South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control charged Carrie Ann Matarese, 40, with three counts of violating the drug distribution law.

She was booked Tuesday into the J. Reuben Long Detention Center, then released after posting $30,000 bond.

Matarese worked as a nurse at the Compass Post Acute Rehab Center, 2320 Highway 378, in the Conway area. She is accused of unlawfully obtaining oxycodone in late February, according to arrests warrants.

She got the prescription pills by “fraud, misrepresentation, deception and/or subterfuge,” according to the warrants.

Each count of violating the drug distribution law is punishable by up to five years in prison.
