Here is what we know about people charged during Myrtle Beach’s protest and curfew

The majority of people charged during the Myrtle Beach protests and curfew on Sunday were from the Grand Strand.

Police charged more than 20 people on Sunday for disorderly conduct and violating the curfew. According to online court records, all but two people were from the Myrtle Beach area. Court records of hometowns could not be found for five arrests.

Several protests and rallies happened in Myrtle Beach to protest police violence. A morning protest included a march from Plyler Park to the police department. An afternoon protest included police officials, including Chief Amy Prock, marching with protesters from the station to Ocean Boulevard.

Around 3 p.m., another group gathered near the police station. The atmosphere was more tense at this protest and the group blocked the vehicle entrance to the department. Until police — some SWAT members and others in riot gear — forced them to move after several warnings.

When police moved the protesters, several people were taken into custody.

A few of the protesters were released hours later, some with citations in hand.

The protesters continued to chant and hold signs peacefully across from the police until about 6:30 p.m. At 6 p.m., a citywide curfew went into place. Officers then marched and advanced on the crowd, causing people to scatter.

The officers pushed the crowd back away from Mr. Joe White Avenue toward city hall and then toward Kings Highway. An officer on a megaphone told the protesters the curfew was in effect and if they did not leave, they faced arrest. Police detained about a dozen people as they broke up the crowd.
