The shooting was the second of three instances of gun violence along Ocean Boulevard during the last eight days. On May 17, Myrtle Beach police responded to Ocean Boulevard near 11th Avenue North for a shooting. Authorities say two rival gangs exchanged gunfire from across the street.

Two people were shot in that incident and were released from the hospital after about a day. Officers charged eight people in connection to that shooting.

On Monday, officers went to a parking lot near 15th Avenue South and Ocean Boulevard for a shooting around 12:45 a.m. One person was shot and killed in that shooting.

Myrtle Beach city officials condemned all three shootings in their aftermath. After the May 17 shooting, police vowed to have a large presence on Ocean Boulevard for the Memorial Day weekend.
