Horry County police investigating a possible homicide, one person detained

Police are conducting a death investigation that is a “probable homicide,” Horry County officials say.

Shortly before 10 p.m., Thursday, Horry County police responded to Maddington Place near Surfside Beach for a reported shooting. The area is in the Cross Gate development off U.S. 17.

Lt. Matt Bonner said the death is a probable homicide. Police believe the incident may be domestic. There is no general threat to the public.

Officers detained one person in connection to the shooting, Bonner said.

Several police cars were in the area about an hour after the shooting and rime scene tape blocked off the road.
