An argument over an eviction ended with gunfire in Conway area, report says

A fight over an eviction at a Conway area home ended with shots fired into a truck, Horry County police say.

Officers arrested Denise Carter, 60, in connection to the incident and charged her with attempted murder. She is being held in J. Reuben Long Detention Center and bond has not been set. Attempted murder is punishable by up to 30 years in prison.

Police went to a Conway area home around 10:30 a.m. Tuesday after a caller hung up on 911, according to a police report.

Officers spoke to Carter who said she called 911 because a man refused to leave the home. It was an issue Carter said had gone on for a while, the report states.

The man left before officers arrived and Carter said there was no need for the police presence. She also said another officer told her over the phone that she had to use the eviction process to get the man removed from the location.

As officers spoke to Carter, they learned the man in question went to the Loris police department and said Carter shot at his truck, the report states.

A witness told police the man tried to burn the porch deck, according to the report. The witness also said the man destroyed furniture. The witness and a man then got in an argument.

The disagreement grew as Carter and another person joined in the argument, the report states. The man went to his truck, but did not leave. The witness said she then heard two gunshots and covered her eyes.

The witness smashed an empty vodka bottle on the victim’s truck and he left, according to the report.
