Myrtle Beach cops arrest burglary suspect who was found in sleeping child’s room
Police arrested a 29-year-old man who they say broke into a family’s home and was found in the bedroom of a sleeping child.
Christopher Robert Saia, of Pawleys Island, was arrested in New York during a traffic stop, Myrtle Beach police announced Wednesday. He was taken into custody and has been extradited back to South Carolina.
On April 23, Myrtle Beach police officers went to Calhoun Road for a reported burglary shortly after midnight.
A 43-year-old mom said she saw a light coming from her 9-year-old’s room and assumed her daughter was still awake reading a book. The daughter typically sleeps with the door open so the cat can enter and leave the room, but the door was closed, according to a police report.
The mom went to check on her child and saw a man — police later identified as Saia — standing over her daughter’s dresser with a flashlight, the report states.
The mom screamed and the suspect fled out the window, the report says.
Outside of the home, police found a chair under the daughter’s window. The screen on the window was removed, according to the report.
