A missing woman was found dead in her Conway home. Here is how police say it happened

As police searched for a woman reported missing in February, it turned out she hid in a remote area of her home and wasn’t discovered until this week.

Marianna Marsh, 61, was reported missing in the Conway area in mid-February, and on Tuesday Horry County officials announced they found her remains in her home. On Wednesday, Horry County police detailed how a woman missing for weeks was found where she lived.

Marsh’s family first filed a missing person’s report on Feb. 15 at 2 a.m. and said the 61-year-old was last seen on Valentine’s Day around 9 a.m.

Marsh required daily medication and was 5-foot-10 and weighed 105 pounds. Police considered her endangered given her condition and cold temperatures at night.

Police, first responders, community groups and Marsh’s family searched on foot, by helicopter and used a drone with no success.

Officers also searched Marsh’s Birch Lane home and the nearby area multiple times while she was missing, police say.

On Tuesday, one of Marsh’s relatives noticed a foul odor in her home. Police searched and found the 61-year-old’s remains. Horry County police say Marsh hid in a “remote and obscure” area of the attic.

The area was not visible to others and required Marsh’s small stature to enter.

No foul play is suspected, and there are no criminal charges expected.
