Cops break up large party near CCU during State of Emergency, two 21-years-olds charged
Officers charged two 21-year-olds with unlawful assembly after cops say they broke up parties near Coastal Carolina University on consecutive nights.
Horry County police went to Quail Run around 7 p.m. Saturday for a noise complaint.
When officers arrived, they found 20 people gathered in the backyard, according to a police report.
Ryan McNeill Creecy, 21, and Jonathan D. Devereux, 21, said they lived at the home and their roommates were gone. Quail Run is off University Boulevard near the CCU and Horry-Georgetown Technical College campuses.
Authorities told the people at the party to leave, the report states.
Another officer said they were at the same residence Friday night and broke up a party. That officer said the residents were warned on Friday about having a party during the State of Emergency.
Horry County, and all of South Carolina, remains under a State of Emergency because of the coronavirus outbreak. Government officials warned that gatherings of more than three people could be stopped and the violators can face criminal charges.
The COVID-19 outbreak continues to grow in the Myrtle Beach area with 134 confirmed cases.
Health officials have advised the best way to stay safe is to practice social distancing and Gov. Henry McMaster issued a “work or home” order.
Police cited Creecy and Devereux with unlawful assembly and told them not to have any more gatherings until the Governor’s orders are lifted.
