Suit: Mom says HTC published video accusing her of murder without checking facts

A woman claims in a lawsuit that HTC published false information that accused her of murder without checking to see if it was accurate.

Crystal Henry filed a libel lawsuit against Horry Telephone Cooperative in Horry County court this week.

Henry married Derrick Adam Sarvis in April 2003 and the couple had two daughters. Sarvis killed one of the daughters in 2007, according to the lawsuit and media reports. The victim was 14 months old at the time.

Sarvis later pleaded guilty to manslaughter and was recently released from prison, according to the lawsuit.

Henry was at work during the killing and was cleared of responsibility for the infant’s death, the suit claims.

The other daughter moved to Horry County in 2009 to live with her grandmother.

In 2018, HTC picked the local daughter to be featured as one of its “Reel Kids.” An HTC employee interviewed the child, who said that her father was in jail and that her mother killed her sister, the suit states.

The HTC employee then asked questions to get more information and implied the mother killed the daughter, according to the suit.

HTC published the interview on its website and Henry said it hurt her reputation. HTC did not check to see if the information was accurate before publishing the video, the suit claims.

Henry asks for an unspecified amount of money.

Leslie Causey, spokeswoman for HTC, said it’s company policy not to comment on pending litigation.
