2-year-old moves chair to grab a ‘binky.’ What he allegedly found landed mom in jail

A 24-year-old mom faces a decade behind bars after police say her toddler overdosed.

Myrtle Beach police arrested Jodi Michelle Smith on Tuesday and charged her with unlawful neglect of a child.

On Tuesday, officers went to Grand Strand Regional Medical Center for a report of a child that overdosed. They spoke to Smith who said she kept her suboxone on a shelf above the child’s “binky,” according to a police report.

“Binky” is a common term for a child’s pacifier. Suboxone is a drug used in addiction treatments.

The 2-year-old child pushed a chair to a shelf where his “binky” sat, according to the report.

Smith said she left the room and the child put four, 5 mg disposable slips of suboxone in his mouth, the report states. Smith watched over her child until his eyes became glossy and then called medics.
