Horry County police arrest man accused of shooting pregnant woman in the head

A man faces more than 30 years in prison after police say he shot a pregnant woman in the head earlier this year.

Horry County police charged Dustin Anthony Butler, 34, of Myrtle Beach, with attempted murder, first-degree domestic violence, possession of a weapon during a violent crime and possession of a firearm by a person convicted of a violent felony.

He is being held without bond in J. Reuben Long Detention Center.

Butler was arrested by Laurinburg police in North Carolina after the shooting. He was extradited to Horry County and booked into jail on Monday.

Police say Butler shot a pregnant woman in the head on Jan. 13 on Bay View Road in the Green Sea area. Butler was wanted for first-degree domestic violence at the time of the shooting.

The victim recently left the hospital, and her unborn child was unaffected by the shooting, according to Horry police. The baby’s due date is later this year.
