Mom accused of killing Baby Boy Horry a decade ago now free on bond
The woman accused of killing Baby Boy Horry and leaving him in the woods a decade ago is now free on bond.
Jennifer Sahr posted a $75,000 bond on Wednesday, according to records from J. Reuben Long Detention Center.
Sahr was charged with homicide by child abuse in connection to the cold case. Earlier this month, Horry County police announced they solved the slaying of Baby Boy Horry and arrested Sahr.
Police say DNA testing proved that Sahr was the boy’s mother.
On Dec. 4, 2008, utility workers found a dead newborn in the woods outside of Conway. Local officials tried to find the baby’s mother, but were unsuccessful. The child was dubbed “Baby Boy Horry” because of his unknown identity.
Sahr was an honor student at Coastal Carolina University in 2008.
Local officials, led by Horry County Coroner Robert Edge, worked to find out the baby’s identity to no avail. The local motorcycle group Rolling Thunder adopted the baby and held memorials on his would-be birthdays.
A judge initially declined to set bond and noted Sahr’s criminal charges could change. On Thursday, the 15th Judicial Circuit Solicitor’s Office stated they believe homicide by child abuse is the correct charge.
Sahr faces up to life in prison.
In setting bond, Judge Larry Hyman ordered Sahr to surrender her passport and remain under house arrest in Florida. She lives in Florida with her husband and their two children.
Baby Boy Horry’s father was not aware that he had a son. He has not been identified by investigators.
