Myrtle Beach man faces manslaughter charge after fight leaves one dead, police say

A 29-year-old faces decades in prison for killing another person during a fight, Horry County police say.

Michael Christopher Willoughby, of Myrtle Beach, was charged with voluntary manslaughter by the Horry County police. He was booked into J. Reuben Long Detention Center on Friday. He remains incarcerated on $30,000 bail.

On March 16, officers went to Grand Strand Regional Medical Center because of a fight that happened on Fountain Pointe Lane. A witness told police that the victim said he and another person fought on March 14 and March 15, according to a police report.

The victim said he didn’t feel well the next morning and went to work, but soon returned home to sleep it off, thinking his condition was caused by alcohol, the report states.

On Monday, the victim went to the hospital and couldn’t talk to officers because of his condition, according to the report.

Horry County police spokeswoman Mikayla Moskov said the victim died as a result of the fight. The Horry County Coroner’s Office has not identified the person killed.

If convicted, Willoughby faces up to 30 years in prison.
